Doodles i have drawn.

I drew the first in a class full of first graders, since i had nothing to do. It was inspired by Take Me to the Riot by Stars. Mainly by the line "the one with the empty looking eyes". There's more i would like to do with it.

The second are sharpie drawings that i used watercolors on a few days ago.

So is the third, minus the watercolors.

Halloween and Autumn in General

I don't think i will ever grow too old to dress up for Halloween. This year, i was a woodland fairy. My fairy wings started out red. i tore off the red fabric from each section, and cut the legs off of three pairs of green tights. Then, i sewed on the green, one leg per wing section. Being the procrastinator i am, i did most of it the night before Halloween.

The last three pictures are pictures i took a few days ago.
i'm starting to realize that Autumn just might be my favorite season.

Costume:
Green leotard and tutu: a ballet performance last summer. it was The Secret Garden.
Brown tights: Target
Gold flats: Delias
Autumn-themed headpiece: a craft store. it was probably meant to be a table decoration.

Outfit:
Dress: UO
Brown leggings: i've have them for years
Pointy black flats: Gottschalks
Grey cardigan: Aeropostale

i've been gone for far too long

To the few readers i may have, i apologize for not blogging in months. i will do my best to change that :)
For now, here's a poem that i wrote some time in August.
Bobbing and flitting
towards whisps of cloud.
You tethered me
and helped me keep
my sanity.
I like to believe
I helped you keep yours as well.
All of a sudden, you let go.
My meager ribbon tail
helplessly floats from your fingertips.
You no longer make an effort
to keep me grounded.
You simply watch
and wave
every once in a while.
i want to come down

Now, i am much happier than i was when i wrote it. I've found that writing poems unearths emotions i didn't know were there, which has both negative and positive aspects.

On another note, this is what i wore to school on Monday. My town is on the small side, as is my high school, so i suppose you could say my ensemble attracted a bit of attention.

white vneck: handed down to me from my mom
black tank top: Target
floral skirt: Forever 21
grape colored stirrup tights: Forever 21
pointy toed flats: Gottschalks

Buckets of ink

Lately, i've been sleepy from around 2 in the afternoon to 6 in the afternoon, and very awake and hungry from 10 at night until the minute i go to sleep, which is usually after 2 in the morning these days. I don't know if i like this, but i'm quite sure i don't.
Sometimes i am lucky enough to be hit by inspiration after midnight, as i was when i wrote this poem approximately ten days ago.

Buckets of ink
wash over the world,
seeping into crevices.
Inevitable.
Willow trees turn to charcoal
statues.
Elongated shadows,
encouraged by velvet darkness.
Few can defeat it.
Heads nodding violently forward,
cupfuls of sand
spilling into buckets
framed with eyelashes.
They will succumb.
Somewhere, deep
in the sound
produced by silence
one may catch a glimpse,
a glimmer of dawn.
Twinkling morsel
from that of dreams.

Can you guess what it is about? :)

Wreck This Journal

I've spent a large part of my summer with my nose buried in books. So it's no surprise to me that I have been captivated by Wreck This Journal by Keri Smith for quite some time. On Sunday, i finally ordered my very own copy from Borders with a gift card that i received over nine months ago. At around noon on Wednesday, i looked out my window and saw the Fed Ex truck driving away. I hurried downstairs, and there it was, a sturdy cardboard package wedged between the screen door and the wooden door.
So far, i have poked holes in one of the pages with a pencil and infused a page with a scent of my choice (some sort of pomegranate body spray from Bath & Body Works and my favorite vanilla chapstick from Avon, all dusted over with a pinch of glitter). I have started a few other pages, and am hoping to upload pictures soon.

On Thursday, i came across a black, velvety looking skirt that i wore to a Valentine's dance in 7th grade and a cream colored peasant skirt that i wore a few times in 8th grade. The black skirt seemed like a decent idea for a top, and i envisioned the cream skirt as some sort of slip.

What splendid things watercolors are.

I came across Stina Persson's work for the first time a few days ago. I was continuously clicking the Stumble button when somewhat bright hues of color caught my eye.

I wish the way I dressed was your favorite style.

Sorry for the lack of updates. I have a few drafts for posts that are half finished that i will probably post within these next few days.

I don't believe in love at first sight, but I believe in love at first note. Music note, that is. I was looking at one of my friend's myspace profiles, and her profile song was by Kate Nash. I had heard of this wonderful singer, but hadn't actually heard her. Bottom line: her music is amazing and it makes me wish i had listened to it sooner.

As the wind hurls itself through the trees.

Yesterday and today have been very windy. Today was possibly the windiest day i have ever experienced. Oddly enough, it's sunny as can be. These past few days have been those kinds of days where your mind tells you the weather is lovely, but you realize this isn't true at all once you step outside. I felt a bit adventerous yesterday. I wore a plaid skirt from Forever 21 for the first time in months and months. Well, this skirt ended a few inches above my knee, and has a bit of a twirl to it. Might i advise you this is very bad if you're at school on a day when the wind is fierce. I'm sure you can imagine why not. But no worries, i spent my school day wishing i had worn jeans, all the while holding my skirt down the entire time.

On a seperate note, tomorrow is the last rally of the year. Also known as the walk out rally for the seniors. It's going to be a bit emotional, with a slideshow of their baby pictures, and just the thought of them leaving. I have become friends with a few of the seniors at my school, and i am afraid of drifting further apart from one in particular.

I am, however, looking forward to this weekend, where i will finally get the camera of my dreams. Or something along those lines, i'm hoping. Then i will be able to take lots and lots of pictures for all to see! Hooray!

I've been lusting after this dress from Urban Outfitters for the longest time.

This post feels unfinished without a goodbye, so:
Farewell for now!

My old/new purple hair

Remember how a few weeks ago, i mentioned that i was going to get purple in my hair? It completely slipped my mind to post a picture, so here you go:

How much of human life is lost in waiting.

I've been impatiently sitting around at home since 11a.m. That's when i was supposed to get purple in my hair, go to a thrift store for the first time, and buy a camera. But at 10:20a.m., my mom received a call from the girl who is supposed to do my hair. Apparently, the owner of the salon decided she should clean today, instead of Monday, as she usually does. My hair will probably have peek a boo streaks of purple by the end of today, but i'm not skilled at waiting. And this is why i've been wandering aimlessly around my house for the past four hours. I tried reading the play we're reading in Spanish, but that didn't last very long. So as not to have bored you, here's a pinch of randomness:

heh. My ultimate best friend and i drew this in our school library when we were supposed to be reasearching for our genocide powerpoint.

Let's go back in time

I want to show you readers a few pictures, and since i haven't taken any lately, here is what my spring break was made up of. Break for my school was one week late in March, so these are around a month and a half old.

My backyard. We've had this angel for a few years..not quite sure where she came from. I think my grandma and i found her at a yard sale, but who knows.

On the drive home from visiting my dad.

Poor abandoned recycling can..

And now it's time for me to shower and get ready to go to Sleeping Beauty ballet rehearsals!

The Painted Sunset was born..

Hello all. This is my first post in a blog i created just a minute ago. This is currently The Painted Sunset, but i might change it later on. I'm not quite sure what this blog will specialize in. I admire fashion, and those who have a passion for it, so it will be partly fashion. Art, photography, and dancing also occupy my heart, so it will have a taste of these as well. If my day went particularly well or horribly bad, you might hear of that, also. So here it is, my first post that i will look back on months in the future, and chuckle at. I'm hoping to develop my blog writing style soon enough.
